About the Editors:

As can be seen from the pictures above, both of your humble editors wear "Palin" hats with pride. We like Sarah, even though the national demonizing campaign is working well. We get someone who has traditional values, elects to love a special needs child and occasionally shoots a moose!

We left the Democrat Party some years ago when it became something we no longer recognized. We're now registered locally in Saguache County as Republicans but are presently in the "pox on both their houses" mode. Make of that what you will!

We live in Saguache County directly between the Proposed Gray Skyscrapers and the Sand Dunes, just off CR G and Highway 17. So you might think that this is purely a NIMBY ("Not In My Back Yard") effort on our part. That is true, of course.

But we believe strongly that this is a NIMBY for the entire United States! Indeed, folks from all over the world, not just the United States, come to visit the Great Sand Dunes National Park, the National Wildlife Refuges and the Annual Monte Vista Crane Festivals.

In the late sixties and through the seventies, John Keyes was personally responsible for 44 U.S, and foreign patents in the fields of solar energy and energy conservation. He was also responsible for a number of patents for hybrid automobile engine design in the early 1970's.

He also authored three best-selling books pertaining to solar energy at that time: Harnessing the Sun, The Solar Conspiracy and The Consumer Handbook of Solar Energy, all published by Morgan and Morgan of New York.

John and Erika Keyes co-founded the very first commercial solar energy corporation in the United States - International Solarthermics Corporation (ISC), located in the small mountain town of Nederland, Colorado back in 1970.

After years of research, instrumentation and testing to determine the most effective designs, ISC licensed dozens of manufacturers under a number of patents to produce and distribute solar equipment.

Most were relatively small to medium-sized entrepreneurial operations, but the largest was a Fortune 500 company: Champion Home Builders of Michigan.

These manufacturers, in turn, established a network in excess of 3000 dealers nationwide.

The authors traveled the United States and Canada at that time lecturing to large groups of folks interested in solar energy in addition to appearing on local television and radio programs to pioneer this new technology.

The huge seminars always resulted in a number of questions from the attendees wishing to learn more about this topic.

Unfortunately, in 1972, President Jimmy Carter, with the best of intentions, killed the infant solar energy industry on the vine, by proposing tax credits for the installation of home solar heating units equal to five times the then-prevailing cost of the equipment, effectively stopping all sales of solar equipment while the public waited for Congress to act on his initiative -- some 2-1/2 years later!

As a direct result of this political interference in the free market arena, neither the manufacturers nor the entrepreneurial dealers could endure in business for that length of time without sales and all ceased doing business with solar equipment.

When the $10,000 tax credits were finally enacted, the market was flooded with extremely shoddy, poorly insulated units being peddled by siding and window salespeople who sold the tax credit rather than the equipment.

They are classical music afficionados with an abiding love for Vivaldi, Bach, Dvořak, Šmetana and Pachelbel (as well as late 20th Century pop) and have arranged in digital format a number of Virtual CD's which are also offered at no charge from WebWalker Virtual Press Virtual CD's Section. Because neither classical nor 20th Century Pop music is terribly popular, the downloads of the free Virtual CD's (which include the sheet music as well) seldom exceed 1000 a month:

John, who built his first computer in 1954 (which possessed the grand total of 8 bytes memory!) assisted in the early nineties in the building of one of the first search engines on the internet - Infohiway.com - at a time when there were far less than 20,000 websites worldwide. He taught HTML, DHTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Perl and Javascript programming at The Art Institute of Colorado in Denver and has authored three e-textbooks in these disciplines which are also available online at no charge from Webwalker:

The authors also host AutoScripter.com, which is a website for web developers and designers around the world featuring script engines which automatically write custom scripts at no charge.

Finally, until old age prevented them from climbing ladders in 2008, they stick-built new mountain homes, one at a time, employing the energy conservation and solar heat gain philosophies described in their books.
